About Bunka

Bunka is an independent lifestyle store that strives to give you the very best in womenswear, menswear, gift, homeware and baby & kids. In 2003 Ayshin opened the doors of her first womenswear store in Forest Hill, a leafy residential area of South London. She had one aim – to bring a new, sophisticated offering of womenswear to south London. Ayshin’s first degree was in graphic and design. So her interest in drawing, Japanese manga and culture made her name the store Bunka which means culture in Japanese. The store became an instant success and it wasn’t long before the word spread, with demand necessitating the launch of second Bunka Store in Beckenham. Ayshin grew up in a family that has experience in running their own fashion business, she had plenty of ambition and a great eye for product. As a daughter of haute couture tailor in fashion design, Ayshin had a natural ability to seek out and discover unique and exclusive products. A family heritage in retail business gave her expert knowledge of retail operations. Bunka have a passion to deliver the very best clothing, accessories for women, men, and kids and homeware with each and every product showcasing individual style. In 2021, Bunka Store opened its Bromley branch in The Glades Shopping Center. Since 2003 Bunka Store now has three boutique stores across south London as well as a successful online store that sells to all over the country. At Bunka Store, we will continue to discover and bring exciting products, and it is our dedication to this goal that has brought us success.

From the founder

I have always loved people and clothing. During my childhood, I spent my weekends and holidays in my Dad's atelier playing with fabrics and making clothing. My grandparents were tailors too, so, from young age I knew what I wanted to do. Sourcing fashion and lifestyle products, styling them to what inspired me when I first saw them is what I deeply love to do. I hope you enjoy our boutique as much as our Team does!
