Handmade in South Africa by Wonki Ware in Di Marshall’s pottery in George on the beautiful Garden Route this great cake plate in a mixed pattern in colourway Duck Egg is a great way to display cakes or, alternatively, use as a serving platter. The piece is part of the eclectic collection of stunning dinner and serving ware from Wonki Ware. Made from 100% South African clay from the local mine, each piece is crafted by artisans and each is completely original in shape, colour and pattern. Uneven organic shapes give each piece a warmth and timeless appeal. Earthy, organic pieces that exude a delicate feel, each and every item is unique and a true one-off. The ceramic studio was founded by Di Marshall in 2008, everything is made from organic, recycled South African clay, each item goes through around 14 pairs of hands before it’s considered to be completed. Giving back to the community from which her pieces are made is important to Di, and Wonki Ware has started a ceramic school to teach local South Africans about the art of pottery. “Developing our variety of shapes and patterns has given us the opportunity to be ahead of most trends, helping us create a classic product that’s timeless and vibrant”.
