The iconic Akari lights were first designed in the early 1950s by American/Japanese artist Isamu Noguchi. During Noguchi's design process, a total of over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for his lighting collection were created. Noguchi chose the name 'akari', as this word connotes brightness and light in his native Japanese. Please note this Vitra Akari floor lamp is CE approved only and should only be used in countries that follow and accept this standard.
