Edward Bawden's England
Edward Bawden (1903 - 1989) enjoyed a long life and a prolific and varied career. This book is co-published by the V&A and Thames & Hudson and is written by the senior curator of prints at the Victoria and Albet Museum. Bawden found much of his inspiriation in the fields and farms of his native Essex, the seaside and also in classic London scenes. This book sets out to demonstrate that it is England with its quiet landscapes, pleasures and pastimes, its history and ceremones that was the source of his finest and most engaging work.
Bawden's work included commissions for tiled panels on the London Undeground, posters for London transport, catalogue illustrations for Fortnum and Mason and a design for a Wedgwood dinner service.
