Description

The Watch Book: Rolex - Gisbert L Brunner

This is the new updated of Gisbert Brunner's Rolex book which was originally published in 2017. This new boko contains additional material compared to the original book, and an additional 48 pages. Gisbert L. Brunner is a watch journalist and author who has written over 15 books on the subject of wristwatches. This Rolex book is written in three languages (English, French and German) and is broadly laid out in chronological order. It starts with a biography of Hans Wilsdorf, the co-founder of the brand along with Alfred Davis, and this in turn becomes a history of the brand with the name Rolex first appearing in 1908.

The book then focusses on the milestone watches that they have developed from early (c. 1915) silver cased watches with enamel dials to the development of the Oyster case in 1926, the iconic rectangular cased Rolex Prince in 1928  and then continues apace through Cosmographs, Submariners, the Milgauss, right up to the updated Air King of 2016. A separate chapter then focuses on the manufacturing process of Rolex with descriptions and images of their factory in Bienne and the offices in Geneva.

The book is covered in a hardback which has been embossed to look like the suede surface of a green Rolex pouch. While some might argue that there are omissions from the book, it does offer a good overview of the history of the Rolex production models.

Hardback. 272 pages.
