Meller's new book is a celebration of the joys of cooking and eating outdoors. But . . . whisper it . . . you can cook and eat all of these recipes from the comfort of your own kitchen and home! Of course there is something to be said for cooking over hot coals, and being outside certainly does something to your appetite, but you can translate most of these dishes to a more domestic setting!
What the tone of the recipes does bring is an air of simplicity - you're not going to find a power source for you Kenwood Chef when you are in the wild, so Meller's food in this book definitely means uncomplicated.
There are recipes in the book that require heat, in the form of a fire of some sort and there are then recipes that can just be best eaten outside, for these you will need a kitchen but can then consume them with the grass under your feet and the nagging sense that you need to reapply your factor 30.
