Crave - Ed Smith
Ed Smith's new book is ideal for those people whose waking thoughts are mostly in relation to food; what do I want to eat for lunch? what do I want to eat for dinner? This doesn't preclude the impetuous cravings but just identifies what approximate flavour it is that you crave and then suggests a raft of ideas to fulfil that craving.
Smith identifies various external influences that might alter what we want to eat: the weather, our mood, our biology. His book is then split into taste profiles including fresh and fragrant, tart and sour and spiced and curried.
Some of the recipes that I am already keen to try out (regardless of the craving as I write this for bourbon biscuits and a cup of tea) is mango with chilli, lime and salt, spiced tomatoes with baked cod and turmeric yoghurt and cherry and apricot slab pie.
