Pura Cal Painted Terracotta Vase with Ethnic Motifs in Black
Masks are an expression present in almost all cultures, from the simplest to the most complex, they are a symbol of transmutation and representations of the imaginarys. These ones are Portuguese popular masks, present in traditions and celebrations all over the country and have common origins and techniques with the big heads.
Made entirely in papier mâché, these white masks at human scale have different expressions and personalities, always unique pieces, shaped by the hands of users of a social support association.
Pura Cal, in its constant search for identity, rescues this popular Portuguese craft tradition, contextualizing it in a contemporary way, where new characters come to create life and tell stories to faces, but also to walls and spaces.
All pieces are totally handmade, with slightly different expressions, and are therefore unique with slight imperfections and diferences in sizes.
