DESCRIPTION:
The Maggot-Bearing Stapelia was a botanical print by English physician and botanical writer Robert John Thornton.
This vintage print was part of Thornton's The Temple of Flora, the greatest botanical book printed in London showcasing illustrations of seventy exotic plants in melodramatic landscapes supposed to represent their native habitats. In the print, we can see the rare Carrion plant, a species native to desert regions of South Africa to Tanzania.
The Maggot-Bearing Stapelia A3 print has been digitally enhanced to enable the finest quality of detailing, the rich tones and colour combinations stand out against the darker background.
