Set the table, serve up your favourite seasonal dishes and invite friends and family over to celebrate summer. We asked stylist and supper club host Kirthanaa Naidu to serve up a seasonal tablescape for us, using the little black book of indie brands that she calls on to elevate every meal.

“Yellow feels very spring fresh, signalling a long-awaited change of weather,” says Kirthanaa. Pay homage to the changing season with your tablescape, pairing zesty hues with crisp white ceramics and textured accessories. Keep the whole affair from looking too formal by clashing checks big and small, and playing with a multitude of tones.

There’s no room for wallflowers this season: summer is all about bright and bold colour, kitsch details and clashing prints. The key to refining more-is-more maximalism? “A good tablecloth is essential to an impactful tablescape,” Kirthanaa says. “Look at the colour and print and build out your decor from there.”

Ruffles, frills, flounces…it’s time to embrace the new wave of dramatic details in your tabletop decor. From scalloped-edged cake stands and tablecloths with gathered hems to plates reminiscent of seashells, frills are the easiest way to add some movement to your tablecape.
