Product details

The source of some colours and dyes is relatively well known, cochineal coming from the shell of the cochineal insect . . . but you may not have known that this source of colour is used in making Campari. The source of other colours range from minerals to plants to the sac of the cuttlefish (sepia).

Coles also describes the science of modern colours including the incredible vantablack which is made by a process o chemical vapour deposition and absorbs up to 99.96 of all visible light making it useful in the construction of telescopes.

"Spanning the ancient world to modern leaps in technology, this book is for the artist, the history buff, the science lover and the design fanatic."
