Wrappers Delight - Jonny Trunk
There is a museum in Craven Arms called The Land of Lost Content which specialises in packaging. If the stock of that museum were collated and displayed with greater clarity then it would look something like this book. Undoubtedly there is something nostalgic about the sight of packaging from goods that can be remembered from childhood but there is also more to it. As an archive of graphic design it is useful as much of the packaging was not meant to last a long time and could therefore be of a particular moment in time without having to be designed for longevity.
The book is laid out in alphabetical manufacturer order and is the wrapping for snacks, both sweet and savoury, and for drinks. There are some big(ish) brands (R Whites followed by Rowntrees) but there are also companies which had a should life span themselves; Keynote, Knight ands Sunshine who all made canned drinks in the 1970s.
Jarvis Cocker has penned the introduction to the book; he writes
This book will give you toothache This book will give you a headache This book will give you misty-eyes This book will give you closure
