The colourful motif on this jug was inspired by the artist's original drawings for tapestries by Bjorn Wiinblad. It features his recognisable design of face with almond shaped eyes and a triangular nose; the wavy hair is enhanced with gold leaf. The name of the series, Gobelin, refers to the area in Brussels where these tighly woven tapestries were made. The multicolour squares on the design are wavy edged to give the impression of a patchwork of colourful threads. Part of a series including a bowl and a serving platter.
Often described as ‘anything but Danish’, Bjørn Wiinblad’s distinctive designs are a truly unique creation, crafted by the illustrator himself in Copenhagen. The style is magical with a romantic touch, thanks to his focus on the female gaze.

Why we love Bjørn Wiinblad
Uniquely different, the smiling faces of Bjørn Wiinblad’s designs are instantly recognisable and offer an alternative take on Danish design.
