Spooky Season, leafy season, Pumpkin Spice Latte season… whatever your vibe, we’ve got a whole host of events and activities across the month of October to help kickstart your autumn and celebrate the changing season. From fashion shows to Halloween scare-taculars in our independent community and beyond, keep reading to plan your October.

1. Frieze Art Fair, London

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Frieze Art Fair this October in London’s Regents Park. Set up in 2003 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the fair showcases contemporary works from the world’s most exciting living artists, garnering its slot as one of the worlds most influential contemporary art fairs. Grab yourself a coffee, and maybe a scarf if this weather is anything to go by, and wander round the works to your heart’s content.

2. Black History Month

Each year, October marks Black History Month, and as always there is a vast array of events to get involved with to celebrate Black History and look to educate and inspire positive change in the racial landscape. Here’s 3 events to checking out if you’re not sure how to get involved:

  1. Heard Live for Black History Month, Feel Good Club, Manchester - 5th October: A true storytelling event sharing past experiences and harnessing their power to create positive change
  2. Tartan X Black History Month Tour, V&A Dundee - 25th & 28th October: Join Visit Scotland on a tour exploring tartans global routes and the contemporary designers reshaping tartans narrative such as Nicholas Daley and Grace Wales Bonner.
  3. Here and Now, Brady Arts Community Centre, Shoreditch - 6th-28th October: an exhibition of diverse images by black British photographers exploring a wide range of contemporary topics inspired by African and Caribbean culture.

3. AW23 Launch Party at Young Ideas

Get inspired to curate your winter wardrobe with Derbyshire-based Young Ideas’ annual Fashion Show in collaboration with their sister store Henmores. Enjoy a glass of fizz and take in all of the new collections they’re championing for the season ahead.

4. Tulleys Farm Shocktober Fest

Repeatedly rated the UK’s best Halloween attraction, Surrey-based Tulleys Farm’s Shocktober Fest is not one to be missed. Not for the faint hearted, the festival is a combination of scare experiences with a focus on great design, acting talent and touch of comedy. Not into the scare factor? Check out their Pick Your Own Pumpkin sessions for a slightly more wholesome Halloween experience - there’s even a competition for the best carving. See you there!

5. Bias Store Pop-Up Souq for the Morocco Earthquake

From 27th September - 3rd October Harrogate-based Bias created a pop-up souq in-store to help raise funds for the Morocco Earthquake Appeal in collaboration with Moor Morocco, a lifestyle brand working with Moroccan artisan makers and headed up by one of the Bias’ own, Maryam - whose friend’s family lost everything to the earthquake. Bias will be donating a minimum of 30% of the weekends proceeds from the pop up.
