Introducing SS23 Menswear

Through their expert curation and deep knowledge of heritage, cult and emerging brands sourced from across the globe, the small business owners in Trouva’s community are at the heart of a thriving menswear scene. To celebrate SS23, we’re spotlighting a selection of the best contemporary menswear boutiques, starting with East Yorkshire’s The Modern Draper.

To kick off spring, Trouva dropped by East Yorkshire boutique The Modern Draper, a master curator of contemporary and heritage menswear brands, to get a rundown of this season’s freshest pieces.

Think hardwearing outdoor staples from Snow Peak, Fjällräven and Gramicci; camp collar shirts primed for heatwaves by Portuguese Flannel and Kardo; and slick sport style footwear from the likes of Salomon and Keen. Keep scrolling to find owner Chris' picks of the season.

“Here at The Modern Draper we bring together a world-class edit of contemporary and heritage menswear brands with old-fashioned customer service."

SS23 Favourite: Party Shirts

“Summer is around the corner, and one thing we’re known for is the resort or patterned party shirt. We have beauties from YMC and masters of the game Portuguese Flannel, plus Swedish resort wear brand OAS. A really interesting piece is the Meadow Cuba Terry Shirt, made using a towelling material and the sort of thing you’d wear around the pool in Miami or at Pikes in Ibiza.”

Another new brand to The Modern Draper is Kardo - it’s quite special because it’s our first Indian brand, every piece is designed and made by handloom weaving communities in New Delhi. A particular favourite is the Chintan Shirt, which is made using hand-embroidery and natural indigo dye.”

Trending: Outdoor Explorer

“The most iconic outdoor lifestyle brand we do is Swedish brand Fjällräven. It’s a true heritage brand that’s been going for over 80 years, with a Royal Warrant from the Swedish King.

Service Works has the authenticity that makes it a Modern Draper brand. It’s best known for supplying trousers to the catering industry, but they’re also extremely popular amongst the skating fraternity thanks to its comfort and hard-wearing material.

Elliker is a UK-based brand, in the Lake District, and they produce fantastic bags and small accessories - the piece that has everyone excited this season is the bottle holder.”

“The gorpcore trend is still going strong: we love the Jasper Trainer from US brand Keen, a climbing-inspired casual shoe that’s equally good down the pub.”

New In: Sports Footwear

“The gorpcore trend is still going strong, and we have a couple of brands that fit nicely into this sports style. A great example is Salomon: the XT-4 is one of their most iconic models. Another brand is the fantastic Flower Mountain, which is a Japanese Italian collaboration. We have the Washi style in a couple of colourways - we have a strong feeling about this one if you’re looking for something totally new.

Another brand is Keen, from the USA. We stocked the Uneek Rope Sandals and off the back of their popularity we have a few new styles: we love the Jasper Trainers, a climbing-inspired casual shoe that’s equally good down the pub.”
